Study visit of the Program Director of the European Capital of Culture Oulu 2026 in Lublin

By News

Between April 14-16, we hosted Samu Forsblom, the Program Director of the European Capital of Culture Oulu 2026, in Lublin.

During his stay Samu Forsblom became acquainted with the cultural specificity of Lublin, visited selected cultural institutions of Lublin and the Chapel of the Holy Trinity in Lublin, the history of which (as well as the names of noblemen scratched on the walls in the 17th century, the oldest example of “vandalism in Lublin)” made a lasting impression on him.
A workshop with representatives of Lublin cultural institutions took place on the second day, followed by work with the Program Council and the authors of the Lublin 2029 application. On April 16th a fruitful meeting between the President and the Mayor of Lublin, Krzysztof Żuk, and representatives of the Lublin City Hall, was held. The visit was concluded with a summary of the work of the Curatorial Council. Sam Forsblom’s visit to Lublin is the beginning of a promising further cooperation.

Formation of a consortium

By News

We join forces and unite powers for one goal – to win the title of the European Capital of Culture in 2029. On April 3, 2024, city cultural institutions signed an agreement to form a consortium. The RE:UNION motto chosen by Lublin is coming to life.

In connection with our efforts to obtain the title of ECoC 2029, representatives of Lublin cultural institutions have established a consortium – the Union of Lublin Cultural Operators. It is a symbolic beginning of cooperation, which will result in the preparation of the key program assumptions for the final application of ECoC LUBLIN 2029, and the celebrations related to winning the title. However – most importantly – regardless of the result of the competition, the consortium will continue its work for Lublin’s cultural and social development, taking into account the goals set in the ECoC LUBLIN 2029 application. This way, thanks to the RE:UNION idea, every scenario becomes a win-win situation.

Lublin residents have spoken about their dream vision of the city!

By News

Lublin has a huge chance to become the European Capital of Culture in 2029 – this will be the time to make your dreams come true! We asked the residents to imagine Lublin in 5 years. What should it be like? What events will they attend?

Over 3,000 dreams and ideas
Until mid-March, residents of Lublin, including school children, their parents, and guardians, could complete a survey which will help us create the final application for the prestigious title. Over 3,000 ideas were submitted. The response allows us to describe the needs of residents in the application. The ideas were submitted online and in paper surveys, which were available at Resident Service Offices, branches of the Municipal Public Library, and cultural institutions. The surveys included multiple-choice questions but also included a descriptive section.

The actions most frequently indicated by respondents are:

• co-financing of cultural education for children and youth,
• large exhibitions and performances,
• international events highlighting the cultural diversity of the EU countries,
• concerts of international stars,
• more cultural activities in the neighbourhoods.

Thanks to the answers from so many recipients, the residents have a real influence on the shape of the ECoC Lublin 2029 application. It is important in light of the motto chosen for the application – RE:UNION, an extraordinary meeting, dialogue, and care for each other.
The detailed results of the survey, including the inspiring and brave dreams of the inhabitants of Lublin, will be published following their detailed analysis.
