On May 10, 2024, representatives of the City of Lublin and the Local Council of San Lawrenz (Malta) signed a declaration of intent to establish cooperation between the two bodies.

On behalf of the City of Lublin, the declaration was signed by Krzysztof Żuk, the Mayor of the City. San Lawrenz was represented by Noel Formosa, the Mayor of the Locality.
Both parties declared their intent to cooperate in undertaking joint cultural initiatives and projects promoting Polish and Maltese artists through local cultural institutions, promoting non-discrimination and equality policies, and the values of tolerance and mutual understanding. The cooperation will also cover promoting border cultures and diversity and exchanging experiences in the field of integration of migrants and refugees.
The joint declaration on cultural and social activities supports Lublin’s in the competition for the ECOC 2029 title. The capital of Malta, La Valetta, was the European Capital of Culture in 2018, and another Maltese city will become the Capital in 2031.
