Magdalena Zaręba-Opalińska

Magdalena Zaręba-Opalińska was born in 1986 in Lublin. She graduated from Unia Lubelska High School in Lublin, holds an MA in English Philology from the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, and has completed the European Academy of Diplomacy program in Warsaw. Associated with the Lublin City Office since June 2012, initially with City Marketing at the Mayor’s office, where for four years she cooperated in the organization and communication of the Carnaval Sztukmistrzów. From August 2017, she worked at the Department of Culture at the Department for External Communication and Promotion of Culture. She carried out activities within the 700th anniversary of the city of Lublin. In August 2018, she became Head of the Department for External Communication and Promotion of Culture in the Department of Culture. From February 2024, she works as the Manager of the Department of Culture. Together with her team, she was responsible for coordinating and implementing activities of anniversaries and key cultural projects for the city: in 2018, the 100th anniversary of Polish independence, in 2019, the 450th anniversary of the signing of the Union of Lublin, and the coordinator of cultural activities as part of the European Youth Capital Lublin 2023. She is a member of the European Capital of Culture 2029 committee. In 2022-2023, she cooperated with external donors, including the Polish Center for International Aid and UNHCR to obtain funds for the city of Lublin for integration activities carried out in connection with the war in Ukraine. For her involvement in helping Ukraine, she received the Lublin Heroes Medal.
